MiniBoard
The MiniBoard was a project I initially created out of a need for a
lightweight discussion board for me and a few friends. This version is
in fact the second incarnation, however I never relased the first
because it was so rough.
The principle idea is that not everyone requires the heavy security or
large and sometimes overwhelming feature set offered by larger bulletin
board systems, such as PHPBB or vBulletin. MiniBoard attempts to take
the best things about these systems - the threaded interface and
overall presentation - and simplify it down to a less fully-featured,
but similarly functional system.
MiniBoard does not have features such as user accounts, because it was
unnecessary to the situation for which it was written. The MiniBoard
contains the bare minimum requirements to engage in logically
structured discussion, which is one of its key features.
I wouldn't recommend MiniBoard to anyone trying to run a large
community website, since it would probably be impractical. However, it
is ideal for medium to small sites with a small user-base.
I didn't write MiniBoard with the original intention of releasing it,
but I have tried to clean it up as much as I can. I release it to the
public simply because it is something I hope might be useful to someone
somewhere. I have not done wide testing of it across a variety of
configurations, however I can say that I have tested it in both Windows
and Linux-based Apache servers and it worked fine. Please make sure to
check the ReadMe.txt file for instructions on installation and do feel
free to send me any comments or questions you have (see the contact
page for my details).
